RAF Red Arrows Hawk Night Preparation Southend August 2023 Photo Print
Engineers of the Red Arrows, the Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team, work beneath a Hawk on the floodlit apron at London Southend Airport in August 2023. They are preparing the jets overnight for the next day’s displays at Folkestone and Eastbourne. The camera is set low under the wing and fuselage, looking up past the roundel, the “Royal Air Force” lettering and a “Danger Hot Air” stencil towards the canopy, against a deep blue night sky. A slow shutter has blurred the two figures as they move: one in blue overalls is bending under the aircraft, and the other is crouched at the right beside a metal can. More Hawks, a fuel bowser and the lights of the airport fill the background. The photograph won second place in its section of the RAF Photographic Competition 2023.
The aircraft are only half of what puts on a Red Arrows show. Among the engineers known as the Circus are the technicians who fly in the back seats of the Hawks when the team goes on tour, so that each jet arrives with its own engineer. On arrival they refuel the jets and refill the dye and diesel for the smoke. They also check each aircraft, often late into the evening, so that it is ready for the next show.

We provide a bright white mount as standard. If you prefer an alternative colour, please contact us. Depending on the print's size and orientation, we may occasionally need to adjust the mount's size or shape to ensure the best presentation.
Our frame selection is extensive, and due to website limitations not every style can be listed. If you have a particular colour or design in mind, please get in touch and we will be happy to discuss available options.
The final frame size and proportions may vary slightly based on the image ratio. Occasionally, frames may need to be a little taller or wider than the chosen size; however, they will never be smaller than the specified dimensions.
