RAF Regiment 63 Squadron Detector Silhouettes Kandahar 2009 Photo Print
Three gunners of 63 Squadron (Queen’s Colour Squadron), Royal Air Force Regiment, sweep metal detectors across a low rise near Kandahar Airfield, Afghanistan, in 2009, checking the ground for improvised explosive devices before a patrol. They are dark silhouettes against a pale golden sky. Two walk upright along the skyline with their detector heads held just above the ground, and the third, nearer the camera, stoops forward as he works his detector over the slope. Stones and patches of dry scrub cover the ground in front of them.
The RAF Regiment was formed in 1942 to defend the Royal Air Force’s airfields, a task it was still carrying out at Kandahar more than sixty years later. Since the early 1990s the Queen’s Colour Squadron has combined its famous ceremonial duties, from the State Opening of Parliament to the guard at the royal palaces, with a role as a field squadron. That dual role sent its gunners to Afghanistan on Operation Herrick, protecting the airfield and the ground around it. The squadron has been the King’s Colour Squadron since October 2022.

Framing & Mounting
We provide a bright white mount as standard. If you prefer an alternative colour, please contact us. Depending on the print's size and orientation, we may occasionally need to adjust the mount's size or shape to ensure the best presentation.
Our frame selection is extensive, and due to website limitations not every style can be listed. If you have a particular colour or design in mind, please get in touch and we will be happy to discuss available options.
The final frame size and proportions may vary slightly based on the image ratio. Occasionally, frames may need to be a little taller or wider than the chosen size; however, they will never be smaller than the specified dimensions.
