RAF Regiment 63 Squadron QCS IED Search Kandahar 2009 Photo Print
Gunners of 63 Squadron (Queen’s Colour Squadron), Royal Air Force Regiment, search the ground by hand for improvised explosive devices before setting out on patrol around Kandahar Airfield, Afghanistan, in 2009. One gunner leans forward on one hand to work through the loose soil and stones. A second, close to the ground in the foreground, watches the same patch, and a metal detector lies between them. Both wear desert camouflage and helmets with sand-coloured covers, and the dry, sunlit ground fills the frame.
63 Squadron is best known as the Royal Air Force’s ceremonial squadron. It mounts the guard at Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle and the Tower of London, and has carried the Colour for the RAF since 1960. Since the early 1990s it has also been a field squadron of the RAF Regiment, which is how its gunners came to be patrolling the ground around Kandahar Airfield. Following the accession of King Charles III it became the King’s Colour Squadron in October 2022.

We provide a bright white mount as standard. If you prefer an alternative colour, please contact us. Depending on the print's size and orientation, we may occasionally need to adjust the mount's size or shape to ensure the best presentation.
Our frame selection is extensive, and due to website limitations not every style can be listed. If you have a particular colour or design in mind, please get in touch and we will be happy to discuss available options.
The final frame size and proportions may vary slightly based on the image ratio. Occasionally, frames may need to be a little taller or wider than the chosen size; however, they will never be smaller than the specified dimensions.
