RAF Regiment 51 Squadron 81mm Mortar Otterburn June 2005 Photo Print
Two gunners of 51 Squadron RAF Regiment crouch over an 81mm mortar on the Otterburn Training Area in Northumberland on 29 June 2005, shortly before a live firing. The nearer man is a soft blur in the foreground, while his colleague, the RAF Regiment shoulder title plain on his DPM smock, looks down over the sight and bipod with the muzzle cover still on the barrel. Behind them rough grass runs away to a hazy blue horizon.
The RAF Regiment was formed on 1 February 1942 to defend airfields after the losses of 1940 and 1941 had shown how exposed they were to ground and air attack. Its field squadrons have long carried their own support weapons, and the L16 81mm mortar, in British service since the 1960s, gives a squadron indirect fire out to several kilometres. Otterburn, bought by the War Office in 1911, remains one of the few ranges in Britain large enough for live mortar and artillery practice.

Framing & Mounting
We provide a bright white mount as standard. If you prefer an alternative colour, please contact us. Depending on the print's size and orientation, we may occasionally need to adjust the mount's size or shape to ensure the best presentation.
Our frame selection is extensive, and due to website limitations not every style can be listed. If you have a particular colour or design in mind, please get in touch and we will be happy to discuss available options.
The final frame size and proportions may vary slightly based on the image ratio. Occasionally, frames may need to be a little taller or wider than the chosen size; however, they will never be smaller than the specified dimensions.
