RAF Sopwith Pup N6453 Dunning Landing HMS Furious August 1917 Photo Print
Squadron Commander E H Dunning of the Royal Naval Air Service brings Sopwith Pup N6453 in over the forward deck of HMS Furious on 7 August 1917, as a deck party runs out to catch hold of the machine. One man is already reaching up to the tail, and the Pup's wheels are just clear of the deck.
Five days earlier, on 2 August, Dunning had become the first pilot to land an aeroplane on a ship under way. This second landing was made in gusty weather, and the wind pushed the Pup back along the deck and damaged its tail. Later that day he went up again in another Pup, went over the side on landing and was drowned. The lessons led to Furious being given a landing deck aft, and to the carriers that followed.
This print is ideal for Fleet Air Arm and naval aviation enthusiasts and anyone with a connection to HMS Furious or the early days of deck flying.

Framing & Mounting
We provide a bright white mount as standard. If you prefer an alternative colour, please contact us. Depending on the print's size and orientation, we may occasionally need to adjust the mount's size or shape to ensure the best presentation.
Our frame selection is extensive, and due to website limitations not every style can be listed. If you have a particular colour or design in mind, please get in touch and we will be happy to discuss available options.
The final frame size and proportions may vary slightly based on the image ratio. Occasionally, frames may need to be a little taller or wider than the chosen size; however, they will never be smaller than the specified dimensions.
Your order will be crafted by award-winning framing technicians based in central England, with decades of combined experience. Using the finest FUJI professional photographic papers and premium materials, they ensure exceptional print and frame quality.
Our hand-picked craftsmen and women work with state-of-the-art printing and cutting equipment, yet every frame is still assembled by hand and subject to rigorous quality checks. Their dedication consistently results in outstanding work, appreciated by many returning customers.
