RAF Vickers FB5 Gunbus on the Ground 1915 Photo Print
A Vickers FB5 Gunbus of the Royal Flying Corps stands on a misty grass airfield in 1915, with its two crew seated in the nacelle. The observer sits right in the nose behind a Lewis gun on a pillar mounting, while the pilot sits just behind him, and the rotary engine and pusher propeller can be seen at the back of the nacelle between the tail booms.
The Gunbus was the first aeroplane built for air-to-air fighting to go into service anywhere, and the pusher layout was chosen so the gunner had a clear field of fire ahead without shooting through a propeller. No. 11 Squadron formed at Netheravon in February 1915 and became the first unit equipped solely with the type, taking it to France later that year as the first squadron formed for the fighter role. The Royal Air Force did not exist until 1 April 1918, so these men and their machine belonged to the Royal Flying Corps.
This print is ideal for students of First World War flying and anyone with a connection to 11 Squadron or the early days of the Royal Flying Corps.

Framing & Mounting
We provide a bright white mount as standard. If you prefer an alternative colour, please contact us. Depending on the print's size and orientation, we may occasionally need to adjust the mount's size or shape to ensure the best presentation.
Our frame selection is extensive, and due to website limitations not every style can be listed. If you have a particular colour or design in mind, please get in touch and we will be happy to discuss available options.
The final frame size and proportions may vary slightly based on the image ratio. Occasionally, frames may need to be a little taller or wider than the chosen size; however, they will never be smaller than the specified dimensions.
Your order will be crafted by award-winning framing technicians based in central England, with decades of combined experience. Using the finest FUJI professional photographic papers and premium materials, they ensure exceptional print and frame quality.
Our hand-picked craftsmen and women work with state-of-the-art printing and cutting equipment, yet every frame is still assembled by hand and subject to rigorous quality checks. Their dedication consistently results in outstanding work, appreciated by many returning customers.
