Royal Marines Raise White Ensign South Georgia December 2021 Photo Print
Three Royal Marines in green berets stand at a flagpole on South Georgia on 5 December 2021, one hauling on the halyard as the White Ensign climbs beneath a Union Flag. Snow-streaked mountains and the waters of the bay lie beyond the grass at their feet. The flag raising was staged to recreate a photograph taken after the island was retaken from Argentine forces in 1982.
Royal Marines were at the heart of South Georgia's story in 1982. On 3 April a detachment of 22 marines under Lieutenant Keith Mills held King Edward Point against the Argentine landing, bringing down a Puma helicopter and damaging the corvette Guerrico before they were forced to surrender. The island was retaken on 25 April 1982 in Operation Paraquet, the first British success of the Falklands campaign.

We provide a bright white mount as standard. If you prefer an alternative colour, please contact us. Depending on the print's size and orientation, we may occasionally need to adjust the mount's size or shape to ensure the best presentation.
Our frame selection is extensive, and due to website limitations not every style can be listed. If you have a particular colour or design in mind, please get in touch and we will be happy to discuss available options.
