Royal Navy Hawker Sea Hawk F.1 jet fighters of 898 Naval Air Squadron, Fleet Air Arm, stand in a long line on the airfield at the Royal Naval Air Station at Brawdy, Pembrokeshire, on 17th March 1954. Seen from the port side, the nearest aircraft is WF156, coded 107, with the squadron badge on its nose, roundels on the fuselage and on its wings folded upright, and “ROYAL NAVY” with its serial ahead of the tail, while more than a dozen Sea Hawks stretch away beyond it, their wheels chocked and their raised wings showing roundels and serials under a pale, overcast sky.
The Sea Hawk’s wings folded upwards near the roots so that the aircraft could be packed tightly into carrier hangars, as this line-up shows. Brawdy opened as a naval air station on the Pembrokeshire coast in the 1940s and was a main training and working-up base for the Fleet Air Arm’s first jet fighter squadrons, including the Sea Hawk units. It later passed to the RAF as RAF Brawdy, and the site is now the British Army’s Cawdor Barracks.

We provide a bright white mount as standard. If you prefer an alternative colour, please contact us. Depending on the print's size and orientation, we may occasionally need to adjust the mount's size or shape to ensure the best presentation.
Our frame selection is extensive, and due to website limitations not every style can be listed. If you have a particular colour or design in mind, please get in touch and we will be happy to discuss available options.
