Royal Navy Merlin 829 NAS Winching HMS St Albans c2017 Photo Print
A Royal Navy Merlin of 829 Naval Air Squadron hovers low over the flight deck of HMS St Albans (F83), a Royal Navy Type 23 frigate, during winching practice. Taken from deck level beneath the helicopter, the photograph shows a crewman hanging on the wire below the open cabin door, where the winch operator leans out to watch him down. The rotor blades are blurred against a bright, cloudy sky, and the white deck markings run away to the sea beyond.
829 Naval Air Squadron re-formed at RNAS Culdrose in 2004 to provide the Merlin flights that went to sea in Type 23 frigates, each with its own aircrew and maintainers. The Merlin's main task is finding and attacking submarines, but it is also used for search and rescue and for moving people and stores. The squadron was merged into 814 Naval Air Squadron in 2018.

Framing & Mounting
We provide a bright white mount as standard. If you prefer an alternative colour, please contact us. Depending on the print's size and orientation, we may occasionally need to adjust the mount's size or shape to ensure the best presentation.
Our frame selection is extensive, and due to website limitations not every style can be listed. If you have a particular colour or design in mind, please get in touch and we will be happy to discuss available options.
The final frame size and proportions may vary slightly based on the image ratio. Occasionally, frames may need to be a little taller or wider than the chosen size; however, they will never be smaller than the specified dimensions.
