Royal Navy Scimitar WW134 HMS Ark Royal R09 January 1957 Photo Print
WW134, the third pre-production Supermarine 544 Scimitar, comes in to land on HMS Ark Royal (R09), a Royal Navy Audacious Class aircraft carrier, on 6th January 1957 during deck trials in the English Channel, seen from below in black and white with wheels, flaps and arrester hook all lowered. Her serial is painted under the wing and fuselage beside a roundel, while a pale overcast sky fills the frame above the deck edge, a canvas-covered shelter and a few distant figures on the flight deck.
The Scimitar grew out of a long line of Supermarine naval jet prototypes, and WW134, which first flew in 1956, was the most representative of the three Type 544s, which is why she was sent to Ark Royal for these trials. The production Scimitar F1 entered service with 803 Naval Air Squadron in 1958 as the largest and most powerful aircraft the Fleet Air Arm had yet flown, and it was the last aircraft designed and built entirely by Supermarine, the company behind the Spitfire. WW134 herself ended her days on 24 October 1962, when she was deliberately launched without a pilot from HMS Centaur off Toulon during trials, and she lies on the floor of the Mediterranean.

Framing & Mounting
We provide a bright white mount as standard. If you prefer an alternative colour, please contact us. Depending on the print's size and orientation, we may occasionally need to adjust the mount's size or shape to ensure the best presentation.
Our frame selection is extensive, and due to website limitations not every style can be listed. If you have a particular colour or design in mind, please get in touch and we will be happy to discuss available options.
The final frame size and proportions may vary slightly based on the image ratio. Occasionally, frames may need to be a little taller or wider than the chosen size; however, they will never be smaller than the specified dimensions.
