Royal Navy Wessex HU5 846 NAS Norway February 1981 Photo Print
A Royal Navy Westland Wessex HU5 commando helicopter of 846 Naval Air Squadron, serial XT760, waits with rotors turning in driving snow on 1st February 1981 as Norwegian troops board her during a joint cold weather airlift exercise, seen side-on from her starboard side in black and white. The soldiers wear snow-camouflage overwhites with large white-covered rucksacks and rifles, one on skis with poles and kit piled on the snow beside them, while the squadron letter S, a roundel and the ROYAL NAVY titles show on her dark fuselage through the swirling spindrift.
The Wessex HU5, a twin-engined commando version of Westland’s licence-built development of the Sikorsky S-58, entered Fleet Air Arm service in 1964 to carry Royal Marines and their equipment ashore and into the field. 846 Naval Air Squadron reformed at Yeovilton in October 1978 with twelve HU5s, and although it began taking the Sea King HC4 at the end of 1979, its Wessex stayed in use until October 1981, making winter deployments to northern Norway in their final year. The squadron went on to fly Sea Kings in the Falklands and beyond, and today operates the Merlin as part of the Commando Helicopter Force.

Framing & Mounting
We provide a bright white mount as standard. If you prefer an alternative colour, please contact us. Depending on the print's size and orientation, we may occasionally need to adjust the mount's size or shape to ensure the best presentation.
Our frame selection is extensive, and due to website limitations not every style can be listed. If you have a particular colour or design in mind, please get in touch and we will be happy to discuss available options.
The final frame size and proportions may vary slightly based on the image ratio. Occasionally, frames may need to be a little taller or wider than the chosen size; however, they will never be smaller than the specified dimensions.
