Royal Navy Sea King AEW Helicopter on US Carrier Deck 1998 Photo Print
A Royal Navy Sea King AEW.2A of 849 Naval Air Squadron waits on a carrier flight deck with her rotors turning and her pilots in the cockpit, ready to lift during Exercise JTFEX 98-1 on 24 February 1998. The two handlers beside her wear the coloured jerseys and cranial helmets of American flight deck crews, and the tail of a US Navy jet stands behind her, with calm blue sea beyond the deck edge. The drum-shaped housing of her Searchwater radar is swung back alongside the fuselage in its stowed position.
The airborne early warning Sea King was born of a hard lesson in the Falklands in 1982, when the fleet had no radar aircraft to spot low-flying attackers. Two anti-submarine Sea Kings were converted with the Searchwater radar in a matter of weeks and sailed south in HMS Illustrious, and 849 Naval Air Squadron went on to provide flights for each of the Invincible class carriers. In early 1998 HMS Invincible was deployed to the Gulf during the Iraq weapons inspection crisis, working alongside the US Navy.

We provide a bright white mount as standard. If you prefer an alternative colour, please contact us. Depending on the print's size and orientation, we may occasionally need to adjust the mount's size or shape to ensure the best presentation.
Our frame selection is extensive, and due to website limitations not every style can be listed. If you have a particular colour or design in mind, please get in touch and we will be happy to discuss available options.
