RAF 41 Squadron Spitfire F Mk XIIs Formation South Downs 1944 Photo Print
Seven Royal Air Force Supermarine Spitfire F Mk XIIs of No. 41 Squadron fly in echelon over the South Downs in 1944, with MB882, coded EB-B, nearest the camera and one aircraft partly hidden behind EB-H. The serials MB858 and MB794 can also be read on the next two aircraft, and a patchwork of fields and chalk downland stretches out below. The squadron was then based at Friston, on the Sussex coast near Beachy Head.
The Mk XII was the first Spitfire to go into service with the Rolls-Royce Griffon engine, and only 100 were built. It was a low-level fighter with clipped wing tips, and the only squadrons to fly it were 41 and 91. No. 41 Squadron used its Mk XIIs to catch Focke-Wulf fighter-bombers raiding the south coast, and in the summer of 1944 on patrols against the V-1 flying bomb.
This print is ideal for 41 Squadron veterans and families and anyone with a connection to Friston, the South Downs or the Griffon Spitfire.

Framing & Mounting
We provide a bright white mount as standard. If you prefer an alternative colour, please contact us. Depending on the print's size and orientation, we may occasionally need to adjust the mount's size or shape to ensure the best presentation.
Our frame selection is extensive, and due to website limitations not every style can be listed. If you have a particular colour or design in mind, please get in touch and we will be happy to discuss available options.
The final frame size and proportions may vary slightly based on the image ratio. Occasionally, frames may need to be a little taller or wider than the chosen size; however, they will never be smaller than the specified dimensions.
Your order will be crafted by award-winning framing technicians based in central England, with decades of combined experience. Using the finest FUJI professional photographic papers and premium materials, they ensure exceptional print and frame quality.
Our hand-picked craftsmen and women work with state-of-the-art printing and cutting equipment, yet every frame is still assembled by hand and subject to rigorous quality checks. Their dedication consistently results in outstanding work, appreciated by many returning customers.
