Royal Navy Westland Sea King Helicopter Hovering 1999 Photo Print
A Royal Navy Westland Sea King HAS6, serial XV708 of 810 Naval Air Squadron, hovers low over open sea in about 1999, photographed from almost directly above. She is breaking the dip, with her sonar body drawn up on its cable beneath her, while the downwash from the five-bladed main rotor spreads rings of ripples across the surface. The CU code of RNAS Culdrose is on the tail, with the radar dome standing up on the spine behind the rotor head.
Dipping sonar let a hovering helicopter listen for submarines, lowering the transducer into the sea, then lifting it and moving on to the next spot, so one aircraft could search a wide patch of ocean ahead of the fleet. The HAS6 was the final anti-submarine version of the Sea King, with improved sonar and processing. In the late 1990s 810 Naval Air Squadron trained anti-submarine aircrew on the type at Culdrose in Cornwall, before the Merlin took over the role in the early 2000s.

This print is ideal for Sea King aircrew, maintainers and observers who flew the dip, and anyone with a connection to 810 Naval Air Squadron or RNAS Culdrose.

Framing & Mounting
We provide a bright white mount as standard. If you prefer an alternative colour, please contact us. Depending on the print's size and orientation, we may occasionally need to adjust the mount's size or shape to ensure the best presentation.
Our frame selection is extensive, and due to website limitations not every style can be listed. If you have a particular colour or design in mind, please get in touch and we will be happy to discuss available options.
The final frame size and proportions may vary slightly based on the image ratio. Occasionally, frames may need to be a little taller or wider than the chosen size; however, they will never be smaller than the specified dimensions.
Your order will be crafted by award-winning framing technicians based in central England, with decades of combined experience. Using the finest FUJI professional photographic papers and premium materials, they ensure exceptional print and frame quality.
Our hand-picked craftsmen and women work with state-of-the-art printing and cutting equipment, yet every frame is still assembled by hand and subject to rigorous quality checks. Their dedication consistently results in outstanding work, appreciated by many returning customers.
