Royal Air Force de Havilland Mosquito IIF DD739/RX-X of No. 456 Squadron RAAF is captured flying high above the clouds from Middle Wallop on 1 June 1943. The image shows the aircraft in clean flight at altitude, with evidence of wartime censorship visible where the wing-tip aerials of its Airborne Interception radar have been deliberately removed from the photograph.
No. 456 Squadron, part of RAF Fighter Command, operated the Mosquito as a night fighter, using onboard radar to locate and intercept enemy aircraft in darkness and poor visibility. The Mosquito IIF combined speed, altitude performance, and advanced radar technology, making it a highly effective platform for night defence during the Second World War. The censorship of radar aerials reflects the sensitivity of this technology at the time.
This military wall art photo print is ideal for RAF enthusiasts, aviation historians, and collectors of Second World War night fighter aircraft imagery.
