HMS Argyll (F231) Royal Navy Type 23 Frigate is shown sailing from St John’s, Antigua on completion of her visit, captured in a clear bow view at sea. HMS Argyll (F231) was the third vessel to bear the name and a Type 23 Duke-class frigate of the Royal Navy. Commissioned in 1991, she became the oldest serving Type 23 prior to her retirement. Built by Yarrow Shipbuilders in Glasgow, laid down in March 1987 and launched in 1989, she was sponsored by the Worshipful Company of Paviors. Like all ships of her class, she was named after a British dukedom, in this case Argyll, and played a key role in modern Royal Navy operations throughout her service.
