HMS Bristol (D23) was a Type 82 Destroyer and the only vessel of her class built for the Royal Navy. She had originally been intended as the first of a class of large destroyers designed to escort the planned CVA-01 aircraft carriers that were due to enter service in the early 1970s. However, the rest of the class and the carrier project were cancelled following the 1966 Defence White Paper, making HMS Bristol a unique and important part of modern Royal Navy history.
