HMS Illustrious (R06) Royal Navy Invincible Class Aircraft Carrier sailed into Lisbon, Portugal on the 20th of June 2014 for a brief operational stand down, shown in a starboard bow view from the air. This Royal Navy photo print captures the Carrier from an elevated angle, highlighting her distinctive ski-jump bow, expansive flight deck and unmistakable Invincible Class profile as she arrives in Lisbon. The combination of the aerial perspective, overseas port setting and the presence of one of Britain’s best-known Aircraft Carriers makes this a striking piece of military wall art, naval history decor and British maritime wall decor.
HMS Illustrious (R06) was commissioned on 20th June 1982 at sea en route to Portsmouth Dockyard to take on board extra stores and crew. She arrived in the Falklands to relieve HMS Invincible (R05) on 28th August 1982 in a steam past. Returning to the United Kingdom, she was not formally commissioned into the fleet until 20th March 1983. After 32 years of service, the oldest ship in the Royal Navy's active fleet was formally decommissioned on 28th August 2014, although she would not be replaced until HMS Queen Elizabeth was commissioned in 2017.
This military wall art photo print is ideal for Royal Navy veterans, serving personnel, Invincible Class Aircraft Carrier enthusiasts, Falklands era collectors and admirers of British maritime wall decor.
